The Tie Dye Hair Statement That’s Inspiring Our Festival Beauty Look

What does a modern-day Deadhead look like? If Acne Studios creative director Jonny Johansson has anything to say about it, the answer has everything to do with hair. The fashion house’s Resort presentation, held in Paris today, was an ode to elevated DIY dyeing techniques and counterculture colors that seemed to bleed upward—making their way from fluid slip dresses and voluminous tunics into each model’s faded, pastel patchwork strands.

Blondes shook out pin-straight lengths that looked tie-dyed, with hazy horizontal streaks of aquas and indigos requiring a “did she or didn’t she” lean in for a closer view; stronger burgundy highlights and the occasional splash of navy offered up a slightly more visible palette for brunettes. The coolly understated aesthetic has us rethinking our summer crafting plans—all that backyard dip-dyeing seems destined to inspire a seasonal hair renaissance while setting the precedent for an elevated new take on festival hair color that’s worth putting into practice now. But even better yet, it’s a look that has legs—promising to pair equally well with a deconstructed pantsuit or ladylike shift come fall.
