It’s #TheFirstMondayinMay, which means the 2016 Met Gala will soon be in full swing. And while red carpet arrivals and behind-the-scenes snaps of the newest Costume Institute exhibition—this year’s show, “Manus x Machina,” was curated by Andrew Bolton—are more than enough to keep those at home scrolling through news feeds entertained this evening, it’s in the pre-party snaps that the most useful beauty inspiration can be found.
Met Gala mornings are best spent relaxing, a feat best demonstrated by Doutzen Kroes, who indulged in a bed-bound breakfast complete with raspberry-tinted lips and matching fingertips. Face masks are a mask for skin worthy of the cyborg-like perfection that is bound to accompany this year’s futuristic theme: Karolina Kurkova donned a white clay version while her blonde lengths set in rollers; Adriana Lima went full-on with an eye-framing sheet option; and Riley Keough paired her fluffy robe and smoky eyes with a murky green skin quencher for an afternoon at The Bowery Hotel.
When it comes time for hair and makeup, nothing can beat a tried-and-true glam squad, a time-honored fact to which FKA twigs—who literally didn’t have to lift a finger—and a glowy Ming Xi can both enthusiastically attest. Always one to take the reins, Karlie Kloss took it upon herself to curl her lashes, though the rest of her hyper-luminescent look can be attributed to her L’Oréal Paris team. And those looking forward to a heavy dose of chrome this evening can get a primer from Jourdan Dunn: The model provided a hint of the extreme looks to come tonight in a selfie video featuring metallic lids and a silvery chop. The future is now.
