While New York Fashion Week may see its share of beauty risks, there’s one show that always stands out on the schedule for its timeless looks, season after season: Oscar de la Renta. A high ponytail—a look usually reserved for the gym—took on a ladylike twist, pairing seamlessly with Spring 2006’s flamenco-inspired flounces and ruffles, while models’ hair (with the help of extensions) was pulled back into long, straight, sleek versions for the Spring 2015 collection.
The chignon, too, has come in many forms over the years at Oscar—most notably, a loose, wispy bun; a sleek French twist; and an off-kilter knot decorated with a sparkling butterfly barrette. And speaking of hair accessories, the de la Renta woman is fond of them: In the Fall 2012 collection, Palau sent jeweled satin headbands down the runway, and thick grosgrain ribbons have made multiple appearances (Spring 2016’s iteration struck a chord with everyone from Poppy Delevingne to Vanessa Traina). Here, ahead of today’s runway show, a look at the house’s most memorable hair moments.
