Why Hair Perfume Is the Beauty Product You Didn’t Know You Needed

How do you apply perfume? If you’re like most, a quick spritz on the wrist or neck will do the trick, but there’s a good chance you’ve also sent that fragrance a little further north with the hopes of bringing back the scent of a blowout. This method, although helpful, has its limits—a regular old eau de toilette can’t revive the volume, shine, or texture of second-day hair. Enter the product you never knew you needed: hair perfume.

Hair perfumes are, in their purest form, just that, but beyond their luxurious packaging, they do much more than just smell nice. The best new formulas act as frizz-fighters, or in Sachajuan’s case, protection against harmful UV rays, all in one magical bottle. Others are designed to rejuvenate virtually any hairstyle: Just ask master stylist Odile Gilbert, who, backstage at Rodarte this week, dabbed models’ hair with a scented cream moments before fastening on decorative floral hair barrettes.

From Valentino’s bergamot-infused hydrating mist, to Frédéric Malle’s epic Carnal Flower formula, here are seven multitasking hair perfumes to spray on all season long.
