The steady rise of fitness-class culture has had many positive effects: creating room for an unprecedented variety of workouts, which make staying in shape more appealing, motivating, and social than ever before. But the increased interest in your favorite boot camp, boxing, and Reformer studios also comes with a few familiar downsides: the sudden difficulty of getting into said class, and the decreased likelihood of personal attention once you’re there. Two problems that Manhattan fitness enthusiast (and class devotee) Aaron Samel is hoping to solve with a new app, TroupeFit, which will send a personal trainer to your door in as little as four hours for the cost of a blowout.
“Personal training tends to come at a premium,” says Samel, who grew frustrated in the dark, at-capacity workout classes he frequented that left him wondering if he might be doing something wrong. “Pair that up with [living in New York] where people are super busy, and that’s where the idea for TroupeFit started.” Self-described as the “on-demand fitness app that makes working out work for you,” the New York City–based company allows you or you and a friend to select a trainer specializing in yoga, Pilates, or general training (HIIT workouts using body weight, resistance bands, and jump ropes) for a 45-minute house call sweat session specifically tailored to your body and goals. “We’re not trying to replace the gym or classes, just supplement them.”
Now, if your dinner date suddenly cancels, in a matter of seconds you can decide to spend the evening being guided through a series of calorie-shedding burpees and mountain climbers in your living room instead, or unwinding with a restorative yoga session focusing on meditation and lower back pain in your home office. Is your SLT class booked? Have a Pilates instructor meet you in the park to build your endurance, work your core, or tone your arms. The only thing you need to have is an iPhone and enough room to lay down a yoga mat—TroupeFit and its handful of charismatic, fully vetted trainers provide all of the equipment. Just press book workout and prepare to sweat.
