Facial jewelry has been on the tips of tongues—or rather lips, cheeks, lash lines, nose bridges, and brow bones—for a few seasons now, but it’s reached official trend status for Spring 2016. On the heels of Givenchy’s golden masks and Dion Lee’s silver profile molds, today at Undercover, Jun Takahashi’s team gave gemstones a mad, eclectic twist. Glittering atop the whimsical collection of deconstructed trenchcoats; castle-shaped backpacks; and jackets emblazoned with hearts, spades, diamonds, and clubs (shapes that framed images of each member of the Rolling Stones), the bejeweled cat-eyes and statement pouts seemed an equally playful wink to the deck-of-cards motif (the joker is wild!). Another, less obvious rock ’n’ roll reference may have been at work here, too: The occasional sparkling pair of crystal horns set among rosebud coils of hair mirrored punk musician Soo Catwoman’s idiosyncratic cut. Whichever counterculture legend you choose to channel come spring, at this rate, you’d better get familiar with facial glue.
