Why Paris Street Style’s Hair Stars Are Falling for the New French Wave

As fashion month (and, along with it dutiful editors, stylists, and models) takes its final lap in Paris, the hair has been significantly springier, with an added dose of French laissez-faire. Blame it on the rainy, humid weather or the city’s unofficial dress code of air-dried texture, but loose hair and easy waves have dominated street style. Yasmin Sewell topped a strict, structured suit with her signature short, tousled curls, while models Mica Arganaraz and Londone Myers opted to take their fresh-from-Chloé ringlets out for a stroll.

The same went for the long-haired, as seemingly untouched tresses flowed among the likes of Nadja Bender and Caroline Brasch Nielsen. But the tendency for unfettered manes could also be seen on the runways themselves, with unfussy looks featured in shows from Rochas to Balmain (albeit with some wigs involved). Whether worn in subtle undulations or tight coils, the disheveled texture lent a sense of ease to bold sartorial statements. It’s enough to make any woman set down the brush, pick up the mousse, and coax a curl out of even the straightest of strands.
