CFDA 2016: The Best Beauty Looks on the Red Carpet

The CFDA Fashion Awards may be a night to celebrate seminal fashion, but it should come as no surprise that this year’s red carpet found a collective of equally fresh takes on traditional beauty looks, each more primed for recreation than the last. Joan Smalls started off the evening’s events on a high note, debuting a choppy, shoulder-grazing ’do—complete with micro-fringe—that immediately made her trademark ironed, middle-parted lengths seem like a look of the distant past, particularly when paired with a high-impact red lip. Karlie Kloss and Irina Shayk each opted for effortlessly glamorous topknots, a look elevated to quirky heights by French singer Soko, whose half-up bun, chin-length cut, and sideswept bangs—paired with a chainmail choker—brought a dose of The Craft to the CFDA.

Soft, loose waves, cut bob length, made classic standouts of Kirsten Dunst—who offset her glossy blonde with a fabric floral ear adornment—and Alexa Chung, who wore her oft-in-her-face lengths pushed back to reveal a set of glitzy, costume-like earrings. And while glowing complexions were favored by all, Ciara took the ethereal trend to new heights: The singer’s ashy blonde ombre cascaded down her back to angelic effect, reinventing a page from the original arbiter of beauty, Aphrodite.
