The Gigi Hadid Rule Book for Summer Beach Beauty

gigi hadid

When it comes to nailing summer beauty, L.A. girls definitely have an advantage—and none more so than model and the newest face of Maybelline New York, Gigi Hadid. The epitome of the SoCal beach babe, Hadid grew up in Malibu—where she was a captain of the high school volleyball team and surfed regularly—so it’s no surprise that she has the whole athletic, sun-kissed, girls-of-summer thing down pat. “When you live at the beach, you pick up beauty tips without realizing it,” Hadid says. “It kind of just happens naturally as you’re there every day. You’re bound to come up with a few tricks!” We caught up with Hadid at a recent party in Los Angeles, where she shared her warm weather-beauty strategy.

What’s the one summer beauty essential you can’t live without?
Maybelline New York matte nude lipstick. In the summer I love a bronzer, a nude lip, and smooth, soft skin ready for a summer tan. In the evening I’ll do a bold lip, though.

Beach makeup: Pro or no?
I’m against it. I never wear makeup to the beach.

Who is your ultimate summer beauty icon?
My mom [former-model Yolanda Foster], because she has always been so great at less-is-more and making things look effortless.

How do you get in bikini shape?
Boxing at Gotham Gym in New York City.

What’s your go-to healthy snack?
I love Whole Foods Parmesan Cheese Crisps, which I eat with salami. If I’m in Malibu, I go to SunLife Organics for an acai bowl.

Is there a beach hair trick you swear by?
Whenever I get out of the water, if I’m about to play beach volleyball, I’ll braid my hair. It looks really nice when it dries with the salt in it, and you get these natural beachy waves.

What’s your dream summer vacation?
I love Tahiti. The water is the best. I swim with sharks there—I love sharks—and I also kayak,
wakeboard and water-ski . . . anything I can do in the water.
