What is in a Gucci girl’s makeup bag? According to creative director Alessandro Michele, either a slim, clear tube of lip balm for use on the lips and eyes, or a single unexpected statement product swiped on just for the fun of it. For today’s Resort ’17 show at Westminster Abbey, that included white liquid liner worn in thick wings outside of the eye; consumptive-esque, smoky red eyeshadow for the health goth within; and, most exceptionally, a bold cerulean lipstick that gave an off-kilter, individual twist to an otherwise ubiquitous logo tee.
Trickling up from the lips of urban art students to the beauty-chameleon likes of Rihanna, Iggy Azalea, and Kylie Jenner, the denim lip has finally reached its glamorous, runway-approved height. While you may have to wait until next year to dip into Michele’s delicious collection of embroidered hats, glittering glasses, Union Jack loafers, and high-collared dresses, a number of brave, extraordinary shades of indigo lipstick are readily available right now. This summer, skip the skin-perfecting concealer and prettifying mascara, and lean into your blue period.
