Leave it to London to bring out the quirkiest, most captivating beauty statements of the season, from the face-adorning petals at Preen to the perfectly imperfect smudged lips at Mother of Pearl. The city didn’t disappoint when it came to runway hair, either: Barrettes, headbands, and all sorts of decorative accents showed up in the collections of both the new guard and the establishment.
Ashley Williams kicked it all off with show opener Fernanda Ly, whose signature pink lengths were bedecked with a crystal clip bearing the word “Girls” (other electric-haired models wore “Boys” barrettes)—which will likely turn up on It Brits like Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof who sat front row. Bora Aksu forewent the cool girl ethos in favor of wildly romantic floral crowns, and at Anya Hindmarch, long, sleek ponytails were tucked into wide, white wraparound headbands.
But it was Erdem who presented the most knockout coif yet. Hair mastermind Anthony Turner plaited windblown lengths into low buns, each of which he beautifully topped off with a black bow tied slightly off-kilter just below the ear. If the look shows up soon on the street style scene, we won’t be surprised.
