Bella Hadid Knows the Japanese Secret to Staying Healthy All Winter

How to avoid the impending flu season in style? Take a cue from Bella Hadid, who arrived in Tokyo a few days ago and immediately fell hard for the city’s offbeat beauty culture—specifically, the Japanese affection for medical face masks.

It’s a common practice across Japan, South Korea, and China, thought to protect wearers from airborne pollutants—and sported rather fashionably across the board by models like Yuka Mannami and K-pop stars like G-Dragon. Spotted walking through Shinjuku with a glazed donut in hand, Hadid had strung a black cotton version from ear to ear, matched to her black denim jacket and PVC choker. A pair of knots perched at the top of her head lent an anime attitude that played into the sci-fi futurist look, as did a set of chrome-color talons. Perhaps best of all was the fact that her boyfriend, The Weeknd, sported a twinning mask alongside her on trips to waterside temples and madcap Harajuku. The couple who plays it safe together . . . .
