The Nipple Is Officially Free! How to Prep Your Bust for Paris Fashion Week’s Mesh Movement

Balmain Spring 2017

As Maria Grazia Chiuri presented her first Dior collection at Paris Fashion Week today, it was clear that the female form served as heavy inspiration. Floaty-meets-gritty variations of sheer tulle dresses and blouses were so ethereally transparent that embellishments appeared to be painted directly onto models’ chests, an idea that Anthony Vaccarello made into reality via a rhinestone-encrusted take on freeing the nipple during his Saint Laurent debut earlier this week. With spring collections from Simone Rocha, Fendi, Lanvin, and the like joining the mesh movement, there’s no better time to prep your décolletage for its moment in the spotlight—if you dare.

We turned to Manhattan-based complexion expert Dangene for her tried-and-true tricks for keeping a youthful bust. Step one? Training yourself to sleep on your back with the support of well-placed pillows and a modern memory foam mattress may be the most effective way to prevent dreaded chest wrinkles. “When you sleep on your side, you’re squinching your entire chest for hours,” she explains. “It’s like giving your chest crow’s feet!” Dangene also believes in fueling your internal and external skin-care routine with collagen-boosting powders and supercharged products designed to target the delicate skin on your neck and bust. “I believe in boosting your skin’s ability to stay plumped and produce more youthful cells,” she explains, counting Orlane’s “old-school phenom” Crème Royale Neck and Decollete as her go-to product for protecting the fragile bust area, which she applies throughout the day, followed by sessions of LED light treatments to help tighten the hard-to-reach skin that pools between collarbones.

The takeaway? Shift your focus below the neck now to put your best breast forward in the future. Above, seven products to help boost your bust game in time for spring’s sheerest styles.
