Call it the transformative effect of a vacation, but ever since makeup artist Alice Lane returned from her ten-day vacation in Big Sur with model Frankie Rayder and comedian Liz Carey earlier this month, she can’t be bothered to feel stressed. Not even a breakneck sixteen consecutive days of work in New York or the impending holiday has made her feel flustered. “I just feel refreshed—it gave me something,” says Lane, of staying at Rayder’s oceanfront house. “I took care of myself and got back to the things I love.” When she wasn’t taking in the sea-meets-sky horizon, Lane says she had time to hike in the redwoods, cook fresh vegetables and fish, pick flowers, take photos, read, write, and wear face masks. “I had time to examine who I want to be as a woman and reformulate my ideas of beauty,” she says of the trip’s grounding influence. Here, she walks us through her detox photo diary.
