With an endless range of coconut-based balms, makeup removers, and lipsticks on the market, it’s no surprise that the fruit has become an all-star beauty ingredient, but lately coconuts are finding favor in their purest (and most Instagram-worthy) form. With one hand on a selfie stick, models have been reaching for fresh coconuts for a nutrient-rich, low-calorie drink that delivers a boost of moisture and a healthy glow to already sun-kissed skin.
Lineisy Montero, shaded by an oversize pair of Stella McCartney sunglasses and a straw hat, looked at home sipping on a green coconut in Ipanema, while a bikini-clad Alanna Arrington reached for one moments after taking a swim in Rio de Janeiro’s blue waters. Amanda Sanchez closed her eyes and drank under the leaves of a palm tree on a deserted Thai beach, and Victoria’s Secret model Paige Reifler traded out her Red Stripe for coconut water’s restorative powers while in Negril, Jamaica.
Aside from being an idyllic seaside refresher, coconut water can also be an urban savior: Fresh off the Chanel runway in Cuba, models Maartje Verhoef, Stella Lucia, Marjan Jonkman, Karly Loyce, and Camille Hurel posed for photos in Havana with coconuts bought from nearby tiki carts. Even the Governors Ball picked up on the trend, offering custom coconuts topped off with a cherry: a welcome relief to festivalgoers like Alisa Ahmann.
So whether you find yourself lounging on a tropical beach or treading the city streets, follow suit and grab a coconut. It’s the perfect antidote for the dog days of summer.
