Are You a Beauty Classic or Chameleon? Decoding Your Fall Look

Yesterday, Rihanna took to Instagram with a set of floor-reaching dreadlocks, mere days after swinging a sleek, regal ponytail on the Fenty x Puma runway. RiRi carried off both looks with equal ease, offering up the perfect platform from which to pose this above-the-neck inquiry: When it comes to beauty, are you a makeover-loving chameleon like Rihanna, or an advocate of tried-and-true signatures à la Taylor Swift and her failsafe look?

Members of the chameleon camp seem to rely on an unshakeable sense of self, maintaining consistent identities despite their penchants for all-the-time transformations. To achieve Rihanna’s modern iteration of the don’t-fence-me-in feel, reach for a palette of metallic shadows, to be paired with a plummy shade of rogue noir lipstick, each option allowing for a bit of immediate mystery—and a decidedly Bad Gal aura. A frizz-free mane communicates a slightly intimidating, untouchable cool girl, as does a reliable, on-hand tattoo balm. After all, you never know when you’ll be investing in some impromptu ink.

Conversely, a foolproof beauty signature appeals to the Taylor Swift in all of us. The pop star’s ever-present crimson pout is easily emulated by way of a vivid liquid lipstick, providing a can’t-be-missed-pop of warmth. Flicks of eyeliner—likely coordinated with your equally in-step girl gang—polished, bouncy blowouts, and well-hydrated limbs complete Swift’s reliably chic routine, which transcends season, occasion, and trend. As Swift herself points out, some things—including that red-lip classic thing that you like—never go out of style.

So, this fall, whether you opt for a day-to-day metamorphosis or a regimen that is pretty much immortalized through muscle memory, here’s everything you need to get the look.
