Kenzo’s Perfect Gym-to-Street Hair Solution

After four weeks of shows displaying the virtues of beauty minimalism, what a wild joy it was to see a full-on look at Kenzo, dedicated to the exuberant ’80s maximalism from the heyday of the house’s namesake. There were rainbow-bedazzled nails by Inglot, MAC’s Flame lipstick buffed into a cloud over models’ eyes, and perhaps best of all, slick plaited loops slung at the nape of the neck that nodded to Parisian nightlife.

“Ultimately, what we’ve got is a wet braid,” explained backstage hairstylist Anthony Turner of the sleek style, inspired in part by a Richard Avedon photograph of Pat Cleveland from the decade in question. After squeezing a tube of Bumble and Bumble’s Bb Gel onto the roots and pulling it down to mid-lengths, Turner and his team crafted deep side parts, then tugged strands straight back for what Turner called a “fiercer” bent. The line’s Thickening Lotion drenched the ends for more moldable plaits, each of which was tucked into itself for a neat hoop. “She’s got more attitude now,” he added, gesturing to the row of decked-out models. With head-turning hair like that, who wouldn’t?
