The first golden days of fall are a natural match for windblown sweater-weather waves, which might explain why the forward-thinking front row crew at Paris Fashion Week eschewed laissez-faire hair, instead taking their beauty cues from an icon of supernatural polish: ’70s-era Cher.

Lanky, hip-grazing waves that were pressed to poker-straight perfection were spotted on Kim Kardashian West, whose obsidian mane provided a swingy argument for bringing your flat iron out of retirement, while Naomi Campbell’s soft middle-parted waves put a textured twist on the look. Rihanna, too, perfected the ultra long mane at Dior, only to discard the look for a supersize set of dreads. Even Jourdan Dunn ditched her honeyed layers for a set of inky extensions.
