How to Look Wide Awake on a Monday: Backstage Beauty Lessons at Carolina Herrera

After a whirlwind weekend of fashion shows, champagne, and after-parties, Monday morning has arrived and our skin is less than thrilled. So how do you fake a full night’s sleep in less than five minutes? Backstage at Carolina Herrera this morning, where models resembled a flock of bright-eyed social swans en route to a garden party in gala season, Diane Kendal gave us her three-step quick fix for looking really good, really fast.

Because “instant hydration” is key, Kendal was misting the skin with MAC’s Prep +Prime Fix+ and following with a sheer foundation to cover any redness. The magic, however, was in the cheeks: She applied a light pink MAC blush in Blushbaby on the apples, then followed with a deeper shade that she placed just slightly higher on the cheeks, sweeping it upward toward the apples “to plump and lift the area.” And because the secret to looking instantly awake is highlighter, Kendal finished by blending an illuminating cream on the top of cheekbones, along the cupid’s bow, down the bridge of the nose, and even at the center of the chin, to give the skin “a luminous and well-rested effect.” Here’s to taking all the help we can get.
