Mist, Spray, Repeat! The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Summer Beauty

Photographed by Raymond Meier, Vogue, March 1999

With late summer at its peak, well-practiced sunny-day revelers have basically become one with the season. You may find yourself so bronzed, so relaxed, so supremely Zen goddess–like that you can barely be bothered to lift a finger. Fortunately, a finger is all you need to activate a spray can—and the latest mist-ready beauty formulas promise to supplant virtually every leg of your morning routine with an easy alternative.

Self-tanners and SPF, of course, have long been available in aerosol form, offering all-over DIY bronzing and protection, respectively, but these days even hair conditioner can be delivered in a transformative cloud: Oribe’s Soft Dry formula leaves beach waves touchable when swirled halolike over the head.

If putting on your face feels like a chore in the heat, on the other hand, Dior’s Airflash color-correcting primer and Sephora’s Perfection Mist blush eliminate unnecessary arm work from the equation. And for overheated patchy legs and feet, Susanne Kaufmann’s cooling blend with menthol, marigold, and dandelion will leave limbs tingling with a familiar feeling of accomplishment—spin class not required.
