Those lucky enough to be heading to Rio to attend the Summer Olympics will find plenty to see and do beyond the track meets and tennis thrillers. But amid all that spectating and sightseeing—not to mention jet lag—you’ll want to carve out time for exercise, healthy eating, and pampering. Fortunately, many of Rio’s wellness destinations offer a chance to experience Brazilian culture and scenery while you recharge your body. And who better to ask for a spa- and fitness-focused guide to the city than one of Brazil’s legendary homegrown supermodels? Here, Vogue regular Caroline Trentini opens up her Rio beauty black book—from her go-to hot-stone massage to her favorite cardio-intensive hike with a 360-degree view of the city as the reward.
The Beachfront Gym: Rio Academia
This scenic outdoor gym in the heart of Ipanema features everything from martial arts training on the beach to open CrossFit classes, and what Trentini refers to as “one of the best views in Rio.” The best part? “It’s totally free!”
The Healthy Lunch: Balada Mix
“After going to the gym or if you’re looking for a quick but healthy meal, I would suggest Balada Mix,” says Trentini of the restaurant known for its cheerful decor and equally colorful menu of fresh juices and healthy salads. “I love eating a typical Brazilian plate called tapioca. It can be salty or sweet—you should try!”
The Workout With a View: Dois Irmãos Hiking
“For people who love adventures, try doing the Dois Irmãos Hiking Tour,” says Trentini. “Walking through the trail takes around 30 minutes to the final summit, and the view is completely amazing. From there, you can also see Rio’s other popular attractions, like Sugarloaf Mountain, Corcovado Mountain, and Guanabara Bay.”
The Pampering Pit Stop: Spa Fasano
When it’s finally time to take a break and ease your tired muscles, turn to the hotel spa that Trentini swears by. “Everybody knows that the Fasano is a wonderful place to stay in Rio,” says Trentini of the modern beachside retreat. “In its spa, there are some special water treatments developed by Vichy—I love the new massage with hot stones.”
