Save for the occasional graphic liquid flick, Dakota Johnson tends to keep the focus on her lips, favoring saturated reds and soft-shine pinks over elaborate eye makeup. Perhaps that’s why her steely smoked lids packed twice the punch at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Annual Grants Banquet in Beverly Hills last night. Shaded outward toward the temples to create an almond shape and finished with a light-catching silver glint on the inner corners, her charcoal shadow amped up her blue eyes, while her easy knot offered a soft alternative to the strict evening updo. A cool pinky-beige lipstick and clean glowing skin kept things fresh—and showed that all it takes to get your daytime nudes black-tie-ready is a wash of bold pigment and a few hairpins.
