The It Hair Accessories You Need for Spring: Rodarte’s Gilded Floral Barrettes

Rodarte’s Laura Mulleavy and Kate Mulleavy have a thing for far-out beauty adornments. We’re still holding a torch for Fall’s crystal eyeliner embellishments, not to mention the length-spanning eyebrow rings that preceded them. At today’s Spring 2016 show, where the monochrome makeup look had an almost poetic purity, the design duo returned to a familiar accessory that has spelled success for them before: the decorative statement barrette.

“I like that they look like they’re part of a crown, without being a full crown,” hairstylist Odile Gilbert said as she secured two metallic floral clips into models’ texturized strands, using deliberately “weird and unexpected” placements. The gold or silver demi-coronets adorned fringes or were stacked linearly just above the ear, offering a point of peculiar polish that contrasted with the mattified effect of hair that had been rough-dried with Kérastase Powder Bluff. Styled with the show’s precise layers of lace, sequins, velvet, and an assortment of fabulous furs, the rose-shaped trinkets made a convincing case for more-is-more dressing next season.
