Between pulling out viral runway moments like today’s dance takeover at Kiok Studio, turning out imaginative designs (we’re stocking up on Cres. E Dim.’s circus-inspired patterns for spring), and drawing major international designers (think: Victoria Beckham and Karl Lagerfeld), Seoul Fashion Week is proving a force to be reckoned with. But perhaps the best argument for the world to take notice resides on the street, where a new generation of mere toddlers is giving some of the best sidewalk peacocks a run for their money.
If the age-5-and-under set is any indication, the not-so-distant future will be dressed in denim in every variation and topped by an independent approach to hair. A lineup of lollipop-toting tots took the bandana trend and ran—well, bumbled—with it, tying fabric around Mohawks and textured pixies. Two leather-clad kids in a wavy shag and close-to-the-head crop looked like they will trade their car-shaped suitcases for electric guitars as soon as dexterity allows. Another coaxed her floral dress and raven lengths into catching the breeze, serving up a lesson in how to turn inclement weather into a photo op, while her contemporaries illustrated that crowning curls with a beret or a wide-brimmed felt cap will make photographers literally fall to their knees. And, bucking braid-mania, a tiny style starlet tied her curls into two low, free-hanging pigtails. Your move, North West.
