How to Make Sure Your Makeup Survives “Adele Live 2016” at Madison Square Garden

Adele, the soulful songstress with a penchant for power ballads and a good cat-eye, began her six-show stay at Madison Square Garden last night. As thousands flock to midtown Manhattan for a chance to hear the “Hello” singer hit that high note, one question remains for those eager to channel her distinct beauty style: How can we make our look cry-proof?

The answer, of course, lies with good preparation. The unofficial Queen of the Breakup Album has earned her place as the go-to singer for encouraging a good sob (something Nasim Pedrad memorably reminded us of on Saturday Night Live). As such, waterproof and long-lasting everything plus ample translucent powder is the key to paying homage to the star. Pair those with well-hydrated, dewy, milky skin to assist in effortlessly concealing smudges and quick touch-ups mid-concert. An understated but sophisticated nude lip will also help distract from what may be happening to your sweeping black liquid liner after exercising your tear ducts. Lastly, no true Adele-esque appearance would be complete without a take on her trademark big hair. If need be, your thick locks can serve as a possible guise if you find yourself with unintentional raccoon eyes. And in case all else fails, don’t forget to bring travel-size makeup wipes and tissues to the venue, or simply try donning a pair of oversize sunnies.

There is one alternative to the above suggestions: Wear your disheveled, end-of-the-night look as a badge of honor of the true emotion you’ve just witnessed. Surely, you won’t be the only one to have shed a tear.
