“Oatmeal scrub!” Dree Hemingway calls out, vigorously scrubbing the stuff against her cheeks and into the pores. The model turned actress is currently ensconced in a suite at the Baccarat hotel, getting ready for the annual New Yorkers for Children Gala. Yet no matter the black-tie dress code, the perennial It girl practices a minimal, no-nonsense beauty routine that remains true to her easygoing nature.
“I like it to all stay in the same realm of the carefree,” Hemingway says, of her black-tie take on no-makeup makeup. “I’m not very good at playing with eyeshadows—it kind of looks like a 5-year-old’s been playing in her mother’s makeup drawer.” That means Hemingway doesn’t shy away from the practical nature of it all, be it the virtue of applying eye cream everywhere (“It’s antiwrinkle!”), or the secret to concealing a breakout. On the lips, it’s a haphazard dash of wine red pencil, and to finish, a cloud of Chloé’s Fleur de Parfum fragrance. “I like to dance it around my hair a little bit,” says Hemingway, who, as the face of the iconic fashion house’s newest rose-infused fragrance, gets plenty of practice.
One more quick tousle of the hair, and there you have it: “That’s pretty much me!” she says. Here’s to an evening look that’s heavy on effortless cool.
