“Dye hair pink. Buy enormous white coat” was our Beauty Director’s Instagrammed note to self after seeing Nicolas Ghesquière’s dynamic, fall show for Louis Vuitton today. Paired with Vuitton’s tech-meets-luxe looks, model Fernanda Hin Lin Ly’s bubble-gum-colored hair captured the audience’s attention with its futuristic vibe. But it’s not the first time pink hair has gotten star billing—the history of the shade is long and varied, ranging from romantic to counter-culture. Musicians—including punkish Gwen Stefani —are the most enthusiastic adaptors of the look, but they are not the only ones to see the world, and their strands, through a rose-tinted lens. In Two Weeks in September, for example, one of the ways Brigitte Bardot expresses her coquettishness is with a bobbed, rosé champagne–colored wig.
