For the fall 2015 collections, we’ve seen brows dramatically penciled in (Marc Jacobs), bleached to oblivion (Rick Owens), and feathered to plump perfection (Jil Sander). With every transition, the models became almost unidentifiable, which got us thinking: Are eyebrows the most recognizable feature on a person’s face? A quick look back at some of the most iconic arches in history proved that so much personality, style, and expression comes down to those little strips of hair. For example, you’ll instantly recognize one set of signature nineties supermodel brows, brushed up and fine with a sharp arch, as well as the filled-out, furrowed beauty of one famous artist’s set. But there are some surprisingly close matches, too. You may think the strong, block shape of Cara Delevingne’ s brows was unprecedented when she came on the scene, but the graphic caterpillar look was the trademark of another famous face decades before. From bleach-blonde to drawn-in, take a moment to click through these double arches. Then, if you must, grab your tweezers—or perhaps throw them away!
