Step Aside, Angel Waves: Why Ponytails Ruled the Victoria’s Secret Viewing Party

Save for Maria Borges’s history-making Afro, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was, as per usual, a showcase for wind machine–ready waves. At last night’s viewing party in New York City, however, the bombshell look to beat came courtesy of the humblest of hairstyles: the ponytail.

As they arrived at The Greenwich Hotel, the Angels cemented 2015 as the year the simple ’do got interesting. Candice Swanepoel showed up with her bright blonde layers slicked down the middle and bound low at the nape of the neck, a sleek take on the power ponytail that found a low-key counterpart in Sara Sampaio’s scraped-back waves. newcomer Gigi Hadid approached the style with her signature undone ease, her career-making mane swept back with two thick face-framing pieces pulled out to soften the look, while Jasmine Tookes showed off a glossier version of the style. Here, four reasons why the simplest of updos is rife with knockout appeal.
