1 Bob, 5 Ways: How the Graphic Haircut Is Taking the Runway by Storm

Heather Kemesky

From the gilded flower crowns at Rodarte to the velvet-wrapped ponytails at Suno, romantic hair proposals have swept the runways at New York Fashion Week—but for those who prefer a statement cut with a hint of downtown edge, it’s a tougher-edged look that’s set to make your heart race.

Yes, the bob is back—this time with bangs and with five fresh variations that suggest the ultrashort cut might flatter anyone. Think model Katie Moore’s razor-sharp red, snipped into a wedge-like shape by backstage hairstylist Guido Palau at Alexander Wang. Peyton Knight, too, took the Palau plunge, exchanging her lash-skimming fringe for a twee set of baby bangs.

Last week, Charlee Fraser debuted a soft flapper bob with brow-grazing bangs and jaw-length curls, while the easy, choppy lengths on Heather Kemesky and the breathy blonde layers spotted on Marjan Jonkman are a more approachable take. Still too timid to take the bob for a spin? Just look to Mica Arganaraz, whose textured waves hover between lob and bob. It’s the universally approved way to go short.
