How an It Girl Does Disco Eyes and Double Buns for the Weekend

Who is Carlotta Kohl? She’s the rising German-born downtown artist, known for her subversive yet overtly feminine paintings and sculptures; she’s also the flaxen-haired model and Instagram star who counts Petra Collins, Paloma Elsesser, and Madeline Poole among her closest friends. In sum, Kohl is an all-around It girl—one who, thanks to those artistic leanings, has her singular statement beauty look down pat.

That’s why we asked Kohl to break down her after-dark beauty routine—a signature party look that, despite the shimmering disco eyes and whimsical double buns, is easy to achieve. A sheer foundation, creamy concealer (drawn on as cat whiskers), and ample bronzer take care of the skin, while the brows are defined with pencil and gel. Those prismatic lids? Just a smudge of hot pink pigment, pressed in with the fingertips and blended out softly with a brush. Then throw your lengths into two high pigtails, wind each one into a knot, secure with a dice-toggled elastic—and you’re ready to take on the art world after dark.
