The Low Chignon Is the Street Style Hair of the Moment

street style

At men’s Fashion Week in Milan, there was nary a topknot in sight. Neck-grazing chignons, it appears, have taken over the Italian streets. Just look at J.J. Martin, who strode down the strada letting a knot unravel and dangle down her back, or Caroline Issa, who pulled her hair into an easy bun as small wisps framed her face. Shoe designer Amina Muaddi loosely gathered her long layers, which swayed alongside her flowing, fit-for-a-princess Gucci gown; while Jenny Walton’s tight updo offered a sleek counterpoint to her feminine, cherry-hued tea dress. And for a look that works just as well sitting front row as it does lying beachside, art director Elina Halimi scraped her blonde curls up into a mid-level twist. No matter how you wear it, this tried-and-true style meant for summer will keep you cool and looking chic. Above, a look at five street style star–approved chignons.
