The lapel pin craze has officially hit new heights at the Vogue offices, as a breezy way to complete your summer look without the unwanted layers or insulation. First scanning the Instagram feeds of designers like Big Bud Press and Robin Eisenberg, we were struck by the speed at which “Back in Stock” turned to “Sold Out” for each enamel creation—and when a batch of beauty-themed pins hit our desks last month, we immediately fell for the whimsical trend.

From teensy aerosol cans of hairspray, which forced us to reconsider our stance on ’80s mall bangs, to miniature claw-foot tubs that recalled a blissful post-work soak, the chance to express our hair and makeup obsessions below the neck felt irresistible, if slightly familiar. “Pins and patches are the rock ’n’ roll equivalent of nail art,” explains Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso, who stocks a slew of indie versions on her site. Amoruso also cites the easy appeal of a temporary beauty flare, along with the relatively slight price tag of each pin, as reason enough to get on-board—and why not? Here, nine pins to stack on this season and let your own vanity flag fly.
