Stephanie Sokolinski, the French musician and actor better known as Soko, is having what you might call a moment. In a matter of months, the raven-haired 30-year-old—who had not one but two acclaimed films at Cannes—went from front row at Chanel’s Fall show in Paris to backstage at Gucci’s Resort collection in London, where designer Alessandro Michele asked her to take over the brand’s Snapchat account.

“She represents a big piece of this culture,” Michele says of The Dancer star. The signature ring of burnt rose eye pigment that Soko reliably scrawls around her lids also happens to be trending, spotted everywhere—from Kristen Stewart’s Palme d’Or-contending Personal Shopper screening to Joan Smalls’s cameo at the Tony Awards. “I’ve been doing this since I started playing music 10 years ago,” the self-proclaimed “Goth princess” insists.

Her go-to makeup statement is simple and hinges on a single staple—MAC’s lip liner in Brick—which she multitasks in an unexpected way by painting it across her lids and underneath her lower lash line for a “Siouxsie type” effect reminiscent of Diane Lane’s electro-clash cherry eyes in the 1982 cult classic Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains. Soko’s tip for a flawless application? “You just smudge.”
