How Supermodels Are Recalibrating the Summer Eyeliner Equation

melted eyeliner

You’d think that the dog days of summer call for little more than a dab of tinted moisturizer and a flick of waterproof mascara—with elaborate eye makeup threatening to travel south by the time you make it to dinner. But that’s a good thing! Anja Rubik posed starboard in St.-Tropez yesterday with a wraparound cat-eye that took her split-second nudes into evening territory as much as Constance Jablonski’s supercharged lashes, while Stella Maxwell and Hari Nef topped a smudge of pigment with a diffuse wash of charcoal shadow. Laura Bailey took a flower crown into rocker territory with an inky liquid flick, and Joan Smalls recalibrated the beach babe beauty equation with a stroke of jet-black pencil that took on a perfectly-imperfect quality by way of a dip in the surf.

Above, five reasons why a hot day is much cooler with a smudge of eyeliner.
