Another New York Fashion Week has ended, and looking back on our favorite hair and makeup ideas from the Fall 2016 collections, two burgeoning schools of thought seem to have taken hold when it comes to beauty. In one camp, whimsical pops of color and sweeping romantic statements looked fresh, from the soft fuzzy curls at Altuzarra to the loose glitter on lids at Tommy Hilfiger. Elsewhere, a darker, almost gothic undercurrent ran across mood boards—think the black lips at Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma show or the graphic, off-kilter bobs at Alexander Wang. The result was a captivating clash that’s brimming with enough transformative promise and fierce femininity to carry us on to London, Milan, and Paris.
