Berlin for Health Nuts! 2 Fitness Superstars On the City’s Best Workouts, Spas, and Juice Bars

It’s not uncommon for visiting editors and street style darlings to get lost in Berlin’s notoriously hedonistic nightlife options during Fashion Week, but those who have managed to resist the siren call of hot spots like Weekend during the shows can find a healthier way to get their techno fix at fitness entrepreneur Gundula Cöllen and Viola Hütten’s new studio, BeCycle.

Offering Berlin’s answer to SoulCycle, the 45 to 60-minute spinning classes are set to thumping hip-hop, house, and pure pop beats curated by local and international DJs, along with a pulsating light design to “merge the club experience with targeted cardio exercises that you can’t get on the dance floor,” explains Cöllen. Barre and yoga classes developed specifically to strengthen and elongate muscles necessary for cycling act as a chill-out zone of sorts, while the lounge-like lobby invites Wi-Fi-seeking freelancers and the athletically inclined alike to linger and kick back over an organic smoothie bowl from the adjacent My Goodness Kitchen.

“Our goal is to elevate exercise into a community experience,” adds Hütten, noting that the city’s large population of single people strengthened her resolve to create a welcoming space designed for all-day hangouts. But just in case you can pry yourself from their cozy armchairs on your next trip to the capital, here are Cöllen and Hütten’s favorite spots to get a heavenly massage, grab an organic bite to eat—and iron out any post-flight kinks.

Wheadon
This beauty boutique in the Mitte district offers a thoughtfully curated mix of predominantly European beauty brands as well as Cöllen’s favorite facial, the 20-minute Peach Treat, designed to restore your morning-after glow. Head next door to Frauenzimmer to get your makeup done with Und Gretel’s line, which Cöllen describes as “so pure you could eat it.”
Steinstrasse 17, 10119 Berlin

Cowshed Spa at Soho House Berlin
Soho House Berlin’s spa offers “hands down the best massage in Berlin in a setting that doubles as a downtown oasis,” Hütten says. Between the tranquil treatment rooms and “gifted” therapists—ask for Olga or Dominique!—“after ten minutes, I might as well be on the beach in Thailand.”
Torstraße 1, 10119 Berlin

Andreas Kurkowitz
Just a few doors down from BeCycle, this hair salon is known for its one-notch-up-from-natural dye jobs, but for Cöllen, the experience is key. “It’s a quintessentially Berlin space—high ceilings, antique moldings, and a picturesque courtyard,”she explains. “It’s like you stumbled into your coolest friend’s loft.”
Brunnenstraße 27, 10119 Berlin

Haut & Sein
No trip to Berlin would be complete without diving into the world of holistic beauty. Both an aesthetician and a professional coach, Jana Pákozdi offers pre-facial consultations that “feel like you’re talking to a psychic,” says Cöllen. “It’s almost spooky how deeply she stares into your soul.”
Mulackstraße 32, 10119 Berlin

Daluma
“This is our little Brooklyn,” Hütten, who splits her time between New York City and Berlin, says of the organic eatery in the Mitte district. Come for the extensive menu of cold-pressed juice concoctions and creative, almost-too-pretty-to-eat bowls; stay for the hipster-heavy people-watching.
Weinbergsweg 3, 10119 Berlin

Osteopathie Bettina Bayerl
If you’ve pretzeled your way across the pond in coach, there’s no better address to hit than Bettina Bayerl’s. Using a combination of osteopathic techniques including craniosacral therapy, “there’s simply no kink that Bayerl can’t iron out,” Cöllen says.
Schönhauser Allee 172 A, 10435 Berlin

Weleda Shop-Atelier
Fans of the powerhouse organic brand will swoon at the complete line of deliciously scented products at its flagship store. Hütten’s favorite: the Rose Body Oil, which quickly melts into the skin, leaving a subtle scent that “reminds me of taking a walk by the Baltic Sea.”
