Sofía Sanchez de Betak’s Black-Tie Beauty Prep Is a Piece of Cake

Few women do black tie better than Sofía Sanchez de Betak, the Argentinian art director and perennial globetrotter who’s always dashing off to one glamorous gala or another. So when asked to decode her effortless look for Vogue.com’s Beauty Secrets video series, De Betak arrived fully armed with her makeup and her other favorite pre-party essential—Junior’s New York cheesecake.

“I try to eat a lot of cheesecake, so I’m not the crazy lady running after the waiters,” she says mischievously of her strategy for avoiding hors d’oeuvre withdrawal. Between bites, De Betak seamlessly sweeps through her routine—a bit of Clinique powder to “mess up” the brows, a smudge of Dior pencil blotted onto the lip, contour for “cheekbones”—before pulling her lengths back into a sleek low braid with a touch of post-shower texture. The slightly undone feel complements the sweeping romance of her Rodarte gown and sculptural gold jewelry in a way that’s both fresh yet wholly polished. “Fabulous, right?” she says. A piece of cake.
