Sun’s Out, Bump’s Out: Why Pregnant Models Are Baring It All on the Beach

Bar Refaeli

Summer is in full swing, which means a steady stream of social-media swimsuit selfies. Yet mixed in with the string bikinis and statement shades is a more subversive take on the suggestive beachside snap—a band of models and celebrities who are proudly airing their baby bumps out in the sun.

Take Candice Swanepoel, who turned an overdone beachside pose on its head by including her full stomach in the frame, while fellow Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo posted a similar poolside shot, noting that her belly button remains “on point.” Model Bar Refaeli also sported twinning bumps with a friend, both lounging in printed bandeaus and fedoras, and earlier this spring, Olivia Wilde matched “bumps” with her two-year-old son, Otis, in a bikini and soft, tousled waves that would have looked lovely, belly or not. It’s a powerful statement of body confidence and pregnancy pride, plus proof that bumps are beautiful—and made to be bared.
