6 Times Michelle Obama’s Flawless Arms Stole the Show

There are many things we will miss about First Lady Michelle Obama—her tireless activism, her perennial poise. Yet the December Vogue cover star’s most immediately scene-stealing feature may in fact be her flawless arms, which have snatched the spotlight at more than one historic event.

They were there at President Obama’s first inaugural ball in 2009 and again in 2013, gleaming beneath the lights as the couple enjoyed a celebratory dance. Her toned biceps made an impact at countless speeches—succinctly illustrating the importance of health and fitness to crowds of school kids—and popped in a handshake with then-Chinese President Hu Jintao in 2011, perhaps making the case for strength-training as a diplomatic tool. Last month, at the couple’s final state dinner, Obama set off a social media whirlwind by wearing a glittering rose-gold Atelier Versace gown, the dripping chainmail making a powerful, feminine statement. It was sleeveless, of course.
