Hillary Clinton Has a Solution for Post-Election Zen

Millions of Americans found themselves in a collective post-election daze this week, with many finding solace by grieving with their co-workers, taking to the streets in protest, or, like Clinton supporter Margot Gerster, clearing their mind outdoors.

Hillary Clinton was probably the last person Gerster expected to cross paths with when she took her two young daughters hiking on her favorite trail in Chappaqua, New York. In a Facebook post that has gone viral, Gerster described her encounter with the winner of the popular vote. “I got to hug her and talk to her and tell her that one of my most proudest moments as a mother was taking [my daughter] Phoebe with me to vote for her,” she wrote, but the picture says more than a thousand words.

It’s not just the sight of three generations of women standing united that offered a rare glimpse of hope this week. Hillary Clinton, looking peaceful, even happy, in yet another display of unfathomable resilience—many feared that her delayed concession speech was a sign that the vicious campaign had finally broken her—didn’t hide under the covers that day, but, sure as President Obama’s reminder that the sun would come up tomorrow, embraced a new day. We know how we’ll be getting a much-need endorphin boost this weekend.
