The Best Friends Workout: TwoBadBodies Turn the World into Your Gym

As calendars fill up with spring and summer getaways, regular appointments at the gym become harder to keep. No matter the distance between you and your favorite SoulCycle bike or Pilates reformer, the only thing you’ll need for months of challenging and stimulating workouts is yourself, and, if you’re lucky, a best friend.

For personal trainers Jennifer Forrester and Kaisa Keranen, collectively known as TwoBadBodies, the entire world is their gym. After meeting on the University of Washington’s track team in 2004, the duo has made a habit of at least thrice-weekly workouts that make the most of Seattle’s urban terrain. The Capitol Hill stairs might call for waist-whittling jump twists or thigh-burning lateral runs. A patch of mossy grass in front of Green Lake acts as the perfect platform for butt-shaping squats and cardio-blasting leaps. “Our workouts constantly vary,” says Keranen. “We really enjoy showing up without a plan in mind and then creating something [on the spot].” Their only requirement? “We train to feel good over anything else!”

Their enthusiasm has been contagious, inspiring everyone from their more than 300,000 Instagram followers to First Lady Michelle Obama, who recently posted one of their signature in-sync workout videos on her own feed. But both Keranen and Forrester find their motivation in each other. “I think its safe to say that neither one of us has anyone else in our lives that challenge us physically the way we challenge each other,” says Keranen. To say that they’re mere friends or teammates would be an understatement: “We’re basically sisters—we get mistaken for that all of the time!” Perhaps it’s the synchronized movements and ensembles.

To contribute to your most fit summer yet, TwoBadBodies have created an exclusive workout filled with their favorite on-the-go moves to share with your best, most motivating friend.
