Why Rocky Horror Picture Show Is the Ultimate Halloween Inspiration

rocky horror picture show

Tonight, the 1975 remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show premieres on Fox—just in time to fuel some major Halloween inspiration. Perhaps the easiest of personalities to re-create among the epic cast of characters is the wholesome, nameplate-wearing Janet—just brush on some waterproof mascara (’twas a rainy night, after all) and fasten a dainty gold barrette to your curls. Those with a flair for the dramatic and a skilled makeup hand could take on mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Draw on those iconic, menacing eyebrows; sculpt a set of cheekbones; and swipe on a blood-red lip gloss like NARS’s appropriately named color, Misbehave.

Columbia fans, get the blush ready, since her cheeks and eyes are topped off with the brightest of fuchsias over that ghostly powder-white base. And as for Magenta, it’s all in the eyes. Tom Ford’s lilac and pink glitter palette will do the trick along with a hefty spritz of L’Oréal’s Elnett to create her massive, retro beehive.

Here, a guide to getting the look of your favorite character, just in time to do the time warp, all over again.
