The Best Boot Camps for a Better Body Start Now

spring boot camps

As we begin to shed our winter layers and gear up for a summer of tiny tanks and clingy slip dresses, our collective desire to get in tip-top shape returns. For many, that calls for a boot camp course—a high-intensity workout method that combines cardio and strength circuit training—to get the job done. By embarking on a four-to-six-week program now, it’s possible to tone up in time for swimsuit season. Here, five New York City gyms offering hard-core courses designed to transform your body.

Dogpound
In this slick, black Fabien Baron–designed space, Victoria’s Secret Angels and stars like Hugh Jackman tackle a grueling series of interval drills, resistance bandwork, and rounds in the boxing ring to keep their million-dollar bodies in shape. With a grand opening set for later this month, regular New Yorkers, too, can join in on the fun, dropping by for the calorie-burning Machine Gun workout—which mixes yoga, ballet, and cardio—or near-endless rounds of burpees.

ConBody
The prison-style boot camp concept goes literal at ConBody: Founder Coss Marte honed his program in a 9-by-6 prison cell, where he lost more than 70 pounds in six months. The six-day-a-week method includes outdoor runs across the Manhattan Bridge and strength-training sessions that use only your body weight, which makes the movements easy to take with you, wherever you go.

Tone House
New Yorkers agree: Tone House is one of the most difficult workouts in the city, thanks to its nonstop-movement approach, which pushes pro-athlete training to its extreme. And thanks to a second studio set to open this year on the Upper East Side, even more devotees can learn to push football sleds, whip heavy ropes, and engage in bear crawl races. Though it’s not a conventional boot camp program, regular Tone House sessions bring guaranteed results.

Warrior Fitness Boot Camp
Launched by a group of former Marines, Warrior Fitness is military-style training in its purest sense. The one-hour classes revolve around a central obstacle course: Running laps and bounding over walls and across monkey bars, with continuous calisthenics, push-ups, and sit-ups on the side. Expect some drill-sergeant repartee—though served with a smile.

Epic
Every four weeks, Epic retools its hybrid training method to deliver maximum results in five to eight circuits—from Blast’s HIIT cardio to Tone and Power’s kettlebell crash course. There are no stationary machines or free weights here, and outdoor obstacle courses provide a playful element. On Fridays, between circuits, trainees toss a ball into a bucket. The penalty for missing? Fifty burpees—or more.
